Thrash metal and freaked out hikers all in a days work
This show was on Fri 22 May 2026. It has passed, but the story stands. See what is on now
This is Bone Reaper. Obsessed With Death / Driven To Kill. Out now. Wollongong gets their fix
The world of thrash metal is an interesting place.
Compressed digital audio will never do it justice.
I experienced this first hand when seeing Slayer for the first time live, and then I truly understood.
Bone Reaper follow in their steps, Adelaide’s newest thrash metal dark horse arriving in Wollongong on the back of their debut full length album Obsessed With Death / Driven To Kill. Ten tracks of unrelenting thrash. Abrasive, relentless and mean. An homage to all that is brutal in the vein of Slayer, Sodom, Death, Onslaught.
A true display of how strong the local metal scene is and how music no matter the stage is as good if not better.
Thrash, headbang, slight cause of industrial deafness, whatever the case. Metal will get you through it.
Now about the album cover.
They dug a bunch of graves.
Fake ones, to be clear, but graves nonetheless.
Homemade markers placed all through a forest somewhere in South Australia. Photographed for the album artwork and then left there exactly as they were.
Some hiker is in for a rude shock at some point.
Would pay to see that unfold.
A great album with a great story, the dedication is as good as the live show.
If you like heavy music,
it ain’t getting any heavier in Wollongong on Friday May 22!
Get your fix and take home the noise with some fresh vinyl this week.
