There’s a second life we live, and some of us find it on stage in front of people. Between the two worlds it seems all feels normal but there is a force that pulls you towards that spot, that place where the world stops momentarily. The job to do is the performance, although it is not an ordinary job and Thomas is anything but ordinary, Purple Disturbance is anything but ordinary. Within those minutes, inside those walls, that venue, something takes hold.
If you want a real example of this phenomenon, just ask the front man.
“I’d like to think the gods of rock n roll speak through me. It has something to do with love, I don’t know what to call it just yet.”
Sometimes this platform can be wildly entertaining for many reasons.
In Melbourne, inspired by the stage antics of Iggy Pop, Thomas lathered himself in peanut butter and let the audience scrape biscuits on his skin. It is on their website. It is not a rumour. It is just Purple Disturbance being completely intimate with an audience in their very own way.
Entertainment comes in many forms.
This is a band that has earned their place on some serious stages. Grinspoon, Gyroscope, Dune Rats, Spiderbait. Acts that have done the round and entertained some serious capacities. I asked Thomas what he took from watching those artists up close.
Big things are coming too. Thomas wouldn’t give specifics but the words were big and loud and they can’t wait to show the world.
Whatever is next for Purple Disturbance has been building and the momentum is primed.
For now we wait, and satisfy our desires for rock and roll with what comes next.
May 17. La La La’s. Wollongong.
Their words on what to expect are next.
